The importance of understanding

The Economist has a good post about John McCain's faith based economics.

It's amazing to me that people would rather elect somebody who "may not be all that bright, but surrounds themselves with smart people" when they can elect an actual smart person who can, I don't know, surround themselves with smart people?

Reagan didn't do too bad, being not-so-smart with smart people around. Though it's been a disaster for not so smart (OK, horrifically dumb) Bush with too-smart-for-their-own good cronies.

I think Hillary is smarter than Obama (not by much) but Hillary has too much negative baggage.

Ron Paul is the smartest person in the entire government. Re-elected to his congressional district 10X in a row, brilliant, yet understandable. Challenges the wrongs with conviction, unafraid to stare down powers that be. A statesman with brains AND heart. That's what I want, brains and heart.

Let's see, someone smart, strong, crafty, putably experienced, although slightly paranoid, secretive, vindictive and controlling --

Richard Nixon?
