Reading status update

So I picked up The Shack at Costco without reading the back of the book because I thought it was a regular old piece of pulp fiction. It's not. But I am determined to make it through. The writing is not good but I admit that I have read worse. I have made it to page 89, this is a gazillion more pages than I managed to read when I attempted the first in the Left Behind series. And I had incentive to read that book because I bet Darr $50 I could.

Spoiler alert: God just showed up. It is an African-American woman, an Asian woman, and a Middle Eastern man all in one. I didn't see that coming.

On a side note, I'm also reading Eat, Pray, Love and finished The Year of Living Biblically last week. (Thanks, Andrew, for the loaner.)

What, are you trying to brainwash yourself? I sense that when you truly start becoming a "believer," you're gonna fall hard and be one of those psycho fundies.

Eat, Pray, Love is the book I love to hate! and I am actually going to see Elizabeth Gilbert on the 10th. But I was invited and have a free ticket.

It's too bad people think that believing in God automatically means the believer suddenly loses their brains. (Noir)

I read The Shack. The trio of course is the Holy Spirit, God, and Jesus.

It isn't scriptural to characterize Gos as a woman, the bible is firm that God is a man, the Father, and so is the Holy Spirit. I was disappointed, because I did enjoy the first third of the book with the gripping tale of the daughter's abduction and death and the effect on the family. But when I got to the part when "God" said sin is its own punishment (when the bible is clear that the "wages of sin is death"), and that Jesus is the "best" way to heaven (when the bible clearly states Jesus is the "only" way) I threw the book out.

I am just a psycho fundy I guess.

I prefer to believe the bible rather than pop Christianity. But if the book gets people to think about God and to research and inquire further, then I think that is great. I hope you enjoy the book Christy.

PS I disliked the Left Behind series intensely. Horrible writing.

If you or Darren are interested in some light reading regarding ultimate questions and answers, I would be happy to suggest some titles.
