Kid safety ideas

1. Take a digital picture of your kid(s) before entering an amusement park, zoo, sporting event, concert, museum, fair or any other crowded place. That way if your child gets lost, you can show the employees and/or authorities exactly what your kid looked like, including what he/she was wearing.

2. Write your cell phone number on your kid's belly with a Sharpie before letting him/her loose in the above mentioned arenas. Then explain what the emergency plan is in the event he/she gets lost.

Yup - great to know. I do the picture thing and will stick a note in Quinn's pocket for field trips. "My name is Quinn. My mom's phone number is blah blah blah." although, now he has it memorized, but still, not sure he'd remember if put into the situation.

ALSO - when you go somewhere, point out all the people that work there. We did that at Disney World and now whenever we're somewhere crowded. Quinn knows to look for someone that works there if he gets lost or can't find me. Which I guess, goes against the, "Stay where you are if you're lost" advice, but anyway, I think it's important for kids to know who actually works there.

When we were in line to get into Legoland, all the parents passed around a Sharpie to write their cell phone numbers on their kids' arms. That way the older kids could read it if they needed to. The picture idea is a great tip, too. It's crazy how crowded those places get and there are just so many places to look if a kid gets lost. Plus, especially with boys, so many of them look SO MUCH ALIKE when you're just describing them generally.

I also tell the kids to find someone who works there if they were to get lost, or if they can't do that to find a mom pushing a stroller... because goodness knows they're EVERYWHERE!
