Update: 5:30P.M. I just finished speaking with Dr. Kurre. He was very excited to talk with me, especially after finding that all of Hen's numbers are in the normal range. He called it an "unusual spontaneous recovery" and is asking that we return in two weeks to have another draw to check that the numbers don't drop when the fever goes away. Although he said such a significant drop in that short amount of time would be as unusual as the high numbers we saw today. But still - "spontaneous recovery"! Woot! I sort of expect a woman of short stature who deals with the supernatural to come to the door to tell me This boy is healthy à la Poltergeist.

Kicking CBN to the curb
We visited Doernbecher's this morning to have Henry's numbers checked before his appointment with his pediatric hematologist/oncologist next week, and, HOLY SCHNIKES, they've never been SO HIGH! 7800! He's not just in the normal spectrum, he's almost at the other end. As a result his scheduled bone marrow test has been canceled. CANCELED! What a relief. So, yes, Henry is sporting a fever (currently 102.2), and I did not actually speak with the doctor, but I'm guessing given that in all the time we've been tracking these numbers - since Henry was 10 months old - we've never seen such a huge response to an attack on the immune system, it's because the underlying issue has resolved itself. Dr. Kurre's going to check his records and get back to us if he decides it's best to bring Bean back in for another draw to see where his numbers fall once the fever is gone. For now, we're celebrating!

That's awesome! I'd be interested to see what the numbers are sans fever, because didn't they spike a bit earlier when he was sick/fighting something. But so high?? THAT is awesome.
Cathy,
Yes, we have seen the numbers spike when Henry was sick before but they've never been this high. The highest number I remember was around 2500. This kid is overflowing with neutrophils! We'll go back to see what adjustment, if any, the numbers make once he is no longer sick.
Great news! So glad to see read this!
Excellent! It's been so strange the past year+ because one would never guess that the boy had any underlying issues. And now it appears he in fact doesn't. Maybe it was all just one big misunderstanding to begin with.
Not to change the subject or anything, but with a 102 fever, I'm assuming you're out for brunch tomorrow?
WOOOOOOO!!! Medical mystery, yes. "Spontaneous recovery" is a rare term, and precious. Congrats to Henry and you guys.
I am so very, very, VERY happy to hear this news! woot indeed.
Same question as amber - brunch off?
