Took us long enough

For years, Darr and I have talked about removing the fireplace and cabinets from our living room and pushing the wall back to give us just over two extra feet of floor space. We don't use the fireplace. We used to. A little. On super cold days when it feels good to have a fire going. But we never used it enough to justify the cost of fixing it when it stopped working. Well, in one week's time our contractor and a guy named Fred from Jacob's Heating and Air Conditioning are going to converge on the condo to check out the as-built plans for the building to determine if removing everything is a feasible option. It will be if we can cap off the gas in such a way as to avoid a huge pipe sticking out from either the wall or the floor. It won't be if that can't be done. All in all, the prospect is pretty exciting. If we are able to proceed with our plans, it also means we get to replace our sad, sad, sad carpet (the original carpet that was here when we moved in nearly ten years ago), buy a new couch, buy a cabinet (I like this one) for what will be our new t.v. (when we buy it, too!), and switch the layout of our room, which has remained basically unchanged since we furnished the place.
