Not that opening

Disclaimer: This is more gross stuff relating to my surgery that I feel compelled to clarify. If you didn't want to read that entry, you ain't going to want to read this one, either.

Some have been under the impression this surgery was done to the, um, butt part of my person. It wasn't. All the cutting was done in the vagina. A rectocele is a type of prolapse, in which the rectum moves from its normal anatomical location and intrudes on the vagina. The posterior part of posterior colporrhaphy refers to the back of the vaginal wall, where the incision is made so that the muscle and tissue behind it can be repaired. A list of symptoms can be found here. My case was moderate and I did not suffer any incontinence.

Recovery is going well. It hurts to sit on hard surfaces and the achy feeling hasn't subsided yet, but the light spotting has stopped and I'm now only taking Vicodin at night (and I'm having the weirdest dreams).

Three cheers for a speedy recovery! (Please tell me you had to look some of those words up... I did.). So glad you got this taken care of.

Thank you for clarifying that incontinence part. ;) In all seriousness, I'm so glad to hear the recovery's going well. If you need anything at all after Friday, call me. I know you won't, so maybe I'll call you.

I'm glad you're on the mend and taking the time to pass this knowledge on to others.

That said, I've now sworn off vicodin -- had eye surgery many years ago and had SEVERE paranoid hallucinations... very disturbing episode. Will take just about any other pain med, just not that one.
I have a friend at my major client's offices that had the same reaction, just never thought it normal so just shut up and moved on.

Hope you feel better soon and that all is well when you recover. It's funny how we don't talk about these things . . . even though lots of stuff like this happens to all of us. Thanks for sharing and being so brave to help others!
