This was a depressing book. I disliked the main character and this feeling became more pronounced as the novel went on. But the writing is great. McEwan can frickin' put a sentence together. There is a quote I wanted to include but I can't find the dang thing so I'm just going to say you should read the book. It's good.

I would definitely sum Ian McEwan up pretty much the same way. but he's so depressing I don't read him anymore.
