The genius of Ernest Hemingway

I wasn't always a fan of Ernest Hemingway. This changed after I took a class on Virginia Woolf. Oy vey, is that lady ever verbose and annoying. (At least, that was my impression of her after the class. I have yet to go back and review her work to see if my feelings have changed.) She practically drove me into the arms of Hemingway, whose short clipped sentences and repetitive prose was like a breath of fresh air. Ahhhh...this bull fight seems so calm and soothing.
Wait, what?
Anyway, I recently came across this bit of Hemingway flash fiction and it was so brilliant and shocking I have to share it. Brace yourself, it is pure genius:
For Sale: Baby shoes, never worn

I actually recognized that bit of short fiction. A friend's husband is a writer and his work was in an NPR story about short fiction stories - I think it's in a book called Hint Fiction. Anyway, I've never read Hemingway (for shame!), but I must say, I was very impressed with his short fiction. It's probably close to perfection.

I agree about Woolf and I agree about Hemingway. I liked A Moveable Feast

Megan, I have a bunch of his books if you're interested.

Elizabeth, You do?! Awesome. I haven't found too many women willing to admit that don't dig Virginia Woolf. I don't think you're supposed to. Das verboten! A Sun Also Rises is probably my favorite although I tend to find something enjoyable in every one of his novels.

Megan, Hey, I still have all my Virginia Woolf books (nearly her entire library) should you want to give her a try as well.
