Thanksgiving, part one

We had a most excellent Thanksgiving at Bobby and Jyla's this year - ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, rolls, that one sweet potato/yam dish with marshmallows on top, macaroni and cheese, and a host of other tasty delights. As much as I love presents, I really think Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday of the year. It is about coming together with friends and family, and breaking bread, and hanging out with no other purpose than to just...be. It is the calm before the Christmas storm. There is no pressure other than what you put on yourself when cleaning, baking, cooking. Everyone watches the kids and no one watches the kids. Which, of course, leads to kids policing themselves, eventually an argument will be corrected by parental intervention, and then things continue. Typically, there's a football game on in the background. Inevitably one of the kids will cram olives on each finger and go around sharing this feat with the grown-ups.
