Book one: What Happened to Sophie Wilder by Christopher R. Beha

I really enjoyed the writing in this book but I wasn't enamored with the actual book. Sophie Wilder is a free-spirited woman who is adored by the men in her life. A successful writer, she is the first of her peers to make a name for herself. She is the first to get married. She is the first to find God. It's a compelling story. But the author changes the both the narrative voice and the tense so often it becomes distracting. So even though the writing is good and the story has potential, you have to expend too much energy trying to slog through it.

For those who might be interested in such things, this book was published by Tin House Publishing. Portland's very own publishing company, yo!

1 down plus 51 to go.
