Book four: Vampires in the Lemon Grove by Karen Russell

This is a book of short stories. You should know that going in or you'll be just a little confused - as I was - when the "chapter" changes from vampires eating ripe lemons in the lemon grove to a factory where girls drank tea and changed to beings that produce silk that is extracted from their bellies.

Her collection offers something for everyone. The two previously referenced stories along with stories of previous presidents reincarnated as horses, a soldier with a severe case of PTSD and a supernatural tattoo, and the most intriguing "Dougbert Shackleton's Rules for Antarctic Tailgating".

I borrowed Russell's first book Swamplandia! but never started it. I'll definitely grab it again, though. She is a gifted story-teller. (Clearly. Her first book landed her on the finalist list for the Pulitzer.)

4 down plus 48 to go.
