Minli leaves home in order to change her family's fortune. She meets a dragon. They have to reach peach trees through a bunch of very possessive monkeys. There are talking goldfish and numerous stories told within the story. All this to reach the Old Man of the Moon at Never-Ending Mountain.
The pace of this book is darn near perfect. The chapters are small, which just meant that I would say, "One more chapter, Hen." And then we'd get the end of that chapter and I'd look ahead to see the next chapter was only three pages long, and when Hen asked for one more, well, I couldn't not read the next chapter. It was only three pages long!
Even if you don't have kids, you should totally read this book. It is a great read for anyone who likes books.
