Curriculum night

I went to curriculum night a few weeks ago and nabbed this shot of Hen's poem I Am. It is perfection, as is the photo of him that was included.

This year seems to be shaping up to be much better than last year. Hen is better at remembering to turn in his homework, we are having fewer fights about doing homework, and he is enjoying his class.

Neither of Hen's closest buds - Eliav and Owen - are in Hen's class so that may help with his ability to focus on his tasks during the day. I also think he's matured a bit over the summer.

His current teacher is Hen's first male teacher, Jim. Jim has taught this grade for almost a decade and the curriculum sounds pretty cool. The focus is on Native Americans, there are six units over the course of the year, and they'll be reading 10 (I think) books in the classroom. Jim calls them high quality because they are children's literature, not just pulp fiction. All the major themes will be explored. The teacher provided parents with a list of books so we can read them, too. So far, so good. I can't believe Hen is already in fourth grade, and that next year will be his last in elementary school.
