MLS Cup Final - Columbus Crew SC vs. Portland Timbers

The morning of Darren's birthday I found this email...

The message read:
Congratulations! You have randomly selected as a winner for our 2015 MLS Cup Flyaway Sweepstakes courtesy of Alaska Airlines and the Portland Timbers. You and a guest have been selected to ride on the Timbers fan charter...
And then I lost my head, ran into the room to wake Darren up and have a small but dignified mini freak out because we had just WON TWO TICKETS ON THE MLS CUP CHARTER TO COLUMBUS!

So, that was awesome.

Long story short I got to drink out of the cup after we won it. Of course, there were pictures...

Many thanks to Portland Timbers and Alaska Airlines. This experience was amazing, one we will not soon forget.

Photography: Fisheye and the Timbers

I dropped Darr at the stadium around 10a.m. to stand in line, drove Hen out to grandpa's (after some LEGO play), drove back downtown, parked the car, walked to the stadium, located the group, and commenced drinking beer. I was so taken with the clouds during the drive out to Sherwood and back that I seriously considered ditching the game to spend time playing with the lens. Then that two seconds was over and I came to my senses. Good thing because the game was FUCKING AMAZING!

Timbers win and they didn't even score their own goal

Awesome game tonight. There was a small(ish) fire when the KC team scored our goal and they lit the green fireworks. There were a bunch of injuries - is this lacrosse? football? hockey? We were chanting crazily before the game even started and we didn't stop once it was under way. KC was the only undefeated team and the first in the league and they scored the goal for us that won the game. Ouch. You can see it here. My favorite is when the announcer goes, "Are you serious?"  A note to the poor chap singing the National Anthem. You can't slow that sh*t down and do runs and such when the crowd is singing with you, buddy. Also, Hen was asleep when we got home. As in he was not awake. The babysitter was able to get our kid to sleep. We didn't think it was possible. Our team won AND the kid was asleep by the time we got home. It does not get better than that.

In other news, we left the house around 9:30 this morning and didn't return until nearly 3p.m. We spent the day traipsing around our neighborhood stopping to have breakfast at Lili's, for Darr to get his haircut, for Hen to check out the shoes at Haggis McBaggis, and to grab some gelato before hitting the park, where Darr and Hen proceeded to play a cops and robbers type game that had Hen capturing his papa and putting him in the park bench jail. A jail Darr would promptly escape from starting the capturing process all over again. My face got a little burnt but it was a great day to be outside with the family and the dog, who hasn't walked that much in months and will probably spend the next five days recovering from the exercise.
