Book twenty: Heaven is Here by Stephanie Nielson

Stepanie Nielson, if you aren't already familiar with her story, is the mother of five children. She is (what I would call) a devout Mormon wife and mother. She is also a blogger, known for her quirky sense of style and for her unending patience in her role as a stay-at-home mom. Her life was what most would have called perfect. In August 2008, Stephanie and her husband were in a plane crash. Stephanie had burns over eighty percent of her body. She was in a medically induced coma for months. When she awoke, she was in excruciating pain. She couldn't do anything for herself and couldn't imagine her children ever being able to look at her again.

This book is an account of her life before and after the accident. She speaks of the tremendous work that is involved when coming back from a tragedy that leaves you as broken as she found herself the morning she woke in the hospital. She talks about her physical therapy, the surgeries she has had to endure, the reaction of her children when they saw her burned face and heard her raspy voice. She explains how her community of family, friends, and strangers from around the world, helped her through it all. And through it all, she shows us the amazing faith that enabled her to not only survive but thrive.

20 down plus 32 to go.
