Me, reading an excerpt from Reading Lolita in Tehran: "'This made it easier for the new ruling elite to pass some of the most reactionary laws, going so far as to outlaw certain gestures and expression of emotion, including love...It banned ballet and dancing and told ballerinas they had a choice between acting or singing. Later women were banned from singing, because a woman's voice, like her hair, was sexually provocative and should be kept hidden.' These #&%#@ need to die."
Darr, in response to my comment: "One day, honey."
Sometimes my husband says exactly the right thing.

adding to his resume, soon he will be a cool husband and a cool daddy!
Hey Elizabeth!
Yes, he will definitely have to add that. I have no doubt he's going to be a great father.
Have you read this book (Reading Lolita in Tehran)? It's extraordinary! Although the moments where they talk about the oppression of women really makes my blood boil, hence the inappropriate death comment I made.
I have not read it but I have heard it is an excellent book. Not sure I want to read about oppressed women because, like you, my blood will boil.
A great documentary is Afghan Ladies' Driving School-- "In a country where women had no rights, now, thanks to Mamozai's Ladies and Gentlemen's Driving Course, Kabul's women are learning to drive for the first time."

Initially only men knew how to drive so the men, usually ex- Taliban, had to teach women to drive, something one man said was 'satanic.' In the documentary, the instructor said to the student (woman), "We have guest, drive well- don't make me slap you!'
