Check out this op-ed piece by William Kristol over at the NY Times.
Again, because I am pressed for time and these folks can sum things up far better than I, here are my favorite snippets:
" The fact is Hillary Clinton has turned out to be an impressive candidate.
...
Clinton now trails in overall votes by only about 300,000, or about 1 percent of the total.
...
Hillary has achieved this despite much disparagement of her candidacy by liberal commentators, and in the face of the media’s crush on Obama.
...
But this focus on Obama has resulted in a refusal to give Hillary her due. It’s startling how much of the commentary on the Pennsylvania results has had to do with Obama’s flaws and mistakes — rather than Hillary’s strengths and successes. Maybe in Pennsylvania, they were voting for Clinton, not simply against Obama."
It should be noted, Mr. Kristol does believe Obama will end up securing the nomination. And also, it didn't escape my notice that he refers to Clinton by her first name.

We've already established that I'm biased on this issue, but have you noticed a huge swing with the media's portrayal of the 2 candidates (I say 2 candidates because I'm desperately trying to ignore that other guy and hope that he will just go away)? We have watched several shows since the week before the PA primary where there was a Republican guest and a pro-Clinton guest. I can't say it's unfair since Obama got the royal treatment from the media for quite a while himself... it's just interesting to me how it all works and I do wonder how much impact it all has on the polls.
And what is up with the first-name-for-her-only thing? Bah! That really gets to me (as you've probably noticed).
I pointed out to B last night that it was proven in 2000 that winning the presidency is less about getting the majority vote and more about winning the big states... I still have hope!
Re: the first name...
Yeah, is if we don't realize which Clinton they are referring to? It's condescending and rude, is what it is. Let's call the little lady by her first name. Ugh.
Ms. A,
You and I both, my friend. Big states mean quite a bit in the winner-takes-all election we have coming in November.
I promise I'll tell Andrew to stop blog-stalking you now. :)
