Rest in peace, Mr. Spud

J.R. Simplot, developer of the first frozen French fry and fry supplier to McDonald's, died on Sunday. He was 99.

I learned of this from what was, most definitely, the blog of someone who did not care for the Simplot Empire:

"J.R. Simplot, French fry innovator, blew his porchlight Sunday, aged 99."

NOT how I would like to be eulogized.

"Blew his porchlight?" That's not very nice.

I had to say something 'bout the man's passing, though, given how much money I've spent eating his tasty creation.

Mmmm...French fries...

There's a big chapter on him and how he got started in the book, Fast Food Nation. Pretty interesting.

Thanks for letting us know, Christie. I missed it in the news.
