Waking up at 4:20A.M. has its advantages because this morning I caught the sunrise. Being the ever-vigilant mother that I am, I left Henry sleeping in his bed without telling anyone, and walked through a few streets to the beach, where I sat for nearly an hour watching and waiting while the faint glimmer of light from the horizon became a full-blown orb of fiery brightness that shimmied across the water. Gorgeous! I hope to hit the sunset before we leave. Henry was up with Penny by the time I returned. He was found sitting in bed calling for his mama. Whoops. But seriously, I thought I had at least until 7:00A.M. to get home before he'd wake up and notice I wasn't there.
Since today we were expecting the power to be out for several hours (or all day, Megan said it's hard to know exactly what's going on because that's how things are run here in The Mexico!), we had made plans to head into town to do a little shopping and sightseeing. Which, of course, is what we did after a leisurely morning spent at the casa. But this was not before the kids, whilst playing ball in the courtyard, successfully killed said ball by throwing it into a rather prickly-looking plant. It was rather sad to see the poor thing slowly lose its air after Henry retrieved it from where it had lodged on the plant. For Huck, the death of a ball is like a death in the family. So very, very sad.
Town was hot and dusty but also very cool. It's smallish enough that you don't feel overwhelmed while visiting but with enough people and hustle and bustle to feel like an actual town. We saw the cutest kids on their way to and from school, dressed in their little school uniforms. I snagged a shot and wanted to take a bunch more but didn't want to be the creepy weird tourist taking pictures of children so one will have to suffice. We saw a huge lizard speciman (can't remember the official name) eating his lunch at one of the eateries/bars along the way. Henry thought that was so very cool and would have liked to get closer but, even though the beast appeared to be a vegetarian judging from what was on its plate, it still looked as if it might eat small humans so we kept our distance.
Shortly after 1:00P.M., we headed out of town to hit a thatch-roofed restaurant by the shore for what I dubbed our Mexican food cart experience (it actually is a pretty big restaurant). The food was quite tasty (thanks for lunch, Penny!). Henry enjoyed the tiny scallops - he initially thought they were marshmallows - and he really enjoyed whatever type of breaded fish Penny ordered. All of that food and hot sun meant Henry took one very long nap with me this afternoon. Ah, naps, how I love thee. One of the restaurant employees came over with gifts of leis for "the girls" and an inflatable frisbee by some beer company. Yes, I get it, Henry's hair is too long.
Megan made a fantastic meal of beans and rice that Henry and I both enjoyed when we woke up from our nap (turns out Avery did not nap - bummer). The kids played in the casa courtyard and when that grew tiresome, we all went to the second level veranda (?) to sit. With the help of Megan's iPhone and music from Michael Jackson and Kylie M., we were able to enjoy our toddlers as they entertained us with interpretative dance, followed by more running.
On a side note, I finished my 25th book so I'm now reading my last one to reach my goal. Sweet.

He thought he was eating marshmallows and ended up with scallops? That might make me stop eating for the rest of my life! And just for the record, long hair or not, Henry does not look like a girl.
