We hit the pool today. Henry was unusally hesitant. He's big on surveying the scene whenever he's introduced to something new but this was beyond mere considering before jumping in. (Sure, we completed a swimming class back when he was around six months old but I'm guessing the pool thing feels entirely new to someone currently existing without long-term memory capabilities.) He was extremely nervous when his feet were not touching the bottom even though I remained by him the whole time he was near the deeper end. That said, we definitely saw some progress in how he acted when we first got to the pool and how he acted when we left the pool two plus hours later. Yes, I said two plus hours. Holy schnikes, did I get a burn. Henry's arms have a pinkish tint but I feel my suspicions that he, in fact, gets an admirable tanning ability from his father are about to be confirmed. I'm trying to suffer in silence, an increasingly difficult thing to do as Henry is fond of holding onto and patting my shoulders. Ouch.
Today, I learned that Megan has hired a local chef to come and cook dinner for us. Woohoo! Here's what we're having: (appetizer) Tortilla Espanola, (first plate) Green salad with Avocado Sauce, (main plate) fish with Mediterranean Dressing and fish with Mexican Dressing, and (dessert) Lemon Sorbet with Sparkling Wine Mix. This will be most awesome because he's coming to cook the day we're heading out on a boat to one of the nearby islands. Boats and chefs, I say!
Henry and Avery have moments when, as Penny described it, they seem like an old married couple with all of their squabbling and bickering. I want it. No, I want it. It's mine. No, it's mine. Oy vey. But the majority of the time the two yutes play along really well together, particularly when they are mobile. These kids could run for miles, which is great because Megan lead us on a rather long walk (with toddlers, a normal and totally do-able walk for adults). We walked on the beach, through a golf course, over a bridge, by some pelicans diving for dinner, and back into the streets of Loreto Bay to the casa. It was a most excellent way to end the evening.
