Sigh. I can think of two movies that came out recently in which women are ridiculed for breastfeeding their older children. And I feel somewhat ashamed that Henry is still breastfeeding, typically right before naps (when he takes 'em) and if he wakes up in the middle of the night. Never in public. There are have been two serious attempts to stop but Hen still seems to want to and I can't come up with a good reason not to.

That was awesome! I'm still nursing Cameron about the same as you with Hen. I don't openly tell people but if they ask I'll fess up. I hate how weird people make it. It's really only weird for them. Not us :)
Woot!!! Good for you. I'm not just a bit envious. And Henry is a lucky guy.
WHO recommends breastfeeding for at least 2 years, or as long as mutually desired.
The average age of weaning worldwide is somewhere between 3-4 years of age.
It's estimated that humans evolved to wean about the time that all baby teeth came in - about age 6.
As a non-breastfeeder (due to adoption), I don't find it at all weird that you're still nursing him. I think it's great. If it works for your family, I think that's wonderful!
As for the movie jabs, it's one of those things that is an easy punchline. Until we adopted Avery, I never noticed how many times you hear kids using "you're adopted!" as a taunt/joke. It's just you're more aware of that jab since it's relevant to your life.
ditto what Ashleigh said, Christie! I'm pretty non-crunchy, but don't see breastfeeding as crunchy/non-crunchy. it's a shame that there's a stigma about breastfeeding at such a tender age. I had some medical stuff come up that stopped us last fall, but otherwise I imagine we still would be.
yes, and thanks for that point, Meagan. sheesh!
