Sewing class, day two

Much work was completed this week. It's amazing how fast we are moving along. We spent a few minutes learning how to sew curves and finish them on the wrong side by using either clipping or notching so that they don't pucker weirdly. And then we reviewed the pattern and got to work cutting out our pieces. A couple things I hope not to forget, the hemline refers to the top of the piece, there are lines on patterns that should run with the grain, you can position things in such a way to get what you need centered on something if you think about where you're cutting before you do it, and that long and narrow items are difficult to keep straight when cutting (I ended up using my pencil to draw the line on the fabric, then removed the pattern and cut along the line). We have a rather large class and there wasn't enough room in our area for everyone to lay out and cut their fabric so a couple of us were sent to this super advanced classroom across the hall to use their tables. Egads! Are those ladies ever talented.
clipping and notching - done when sewing either a concave or convex curve in order to get a smooth result on the finished edge

an example of my own work - yes, it's a part of the apron!

Um... I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the hemline was only on the top of our pieces because they were pockets. I'd hate to see you making all your clothes upside down. :)

It is taking every ounce of my willpower not to work on that apron this week. I just want to finish it.

You are not wrong. For this pattern, the hemline is referring to the top of the pockets.

Also, I'm too afraid of doing something wrong to give it a whirl on my own. If you wanted to bring your machine over though perhaps we could, uh...

Oh no you don't! You two being even more ahead will drive me to the brink!

Ha! We're like two stitches, at the most, ahead of you... but I must admit it's fun to see how aggravated it's making you! :)

I don't know, Amber. Has Megan used the ham? Has she finished her clipping and notching?
