Hen had a fantastic day at the beach. He is obsessed with sea creatures as of late so a trip to the aquarium was a no-brainer. I imagine this place is crazy during the weekends but it was a perfect destination choice mid-week. We had a quick stop at the beach before we hit the aquarium so we could stretch our legs a bit. And because I thought a little running outside might prevent running inside (which it did, thank Zeus). Then we spent two hours roaming around the aquarium. My favorite, the sea nettles. Hen's favorite, everything. We stopped at the beach a second time before heading home and, yes, I am the mama that let her kid strip down to his skivvies and play in the ocean. In May. Along the Oregon coast. Of course, there were pictures...

I'm adding this link to the Flickr pics so Darr can view the pics on Lola the iPad.
From a photography standpoint, the pics at the beach are ho-hum. First, I did have my polarizing filter but I dropped it in the sand so I couldn't use it. (D'oh.) Second, I'm not good at shooting in such bright light. Clearly, many more trips to the beach are in order so that I may practice and get a sense of what works. Third, Hen has officially entered the stage where he'll pose for the camera and that results in pics with weird faces on my kid.
For inside the aquarium, I love some of the shots. I could have stood there taking pics of the sea nettles all day. They were beautiful! The camera handles low light very well. The pic of this alligator
was taken at ISO 1600, f/1.4, and with a shutter set at 1/60, and I was shooting through a bubble window (hence, the blackened rounded edges and the foggy haze) where the little guy was kept. It's not a great shot but I find the noise to be minimal. And I think the effect is rather cool. As bulky as it might be, I think next time I'll also travel with the old camera since it has a zoom lens.

These are fabulous--your pictures are getting better and better. (Which is kind of pissing me off, but whatever.)
I like both #8 and #18 a lot.
That's one hell of a round trip in one day. I thought your beach pictures were fabulous. :)
