I have one friend over here doing super cool stuff with her does-frickin'-everything machine and another friend over here sewing like she's opening her own shop and I have to say the activities of these two is lighting a fire under my butt. I completed my first skirt for a friend's baby expected later this year. Unfortunately, the free pattern was less than forthcoming when it discussed sizing so my initial run, while great for a Cabbage Patch doll, is unlikely to actually fit the baby it was intended for. It's back to the drawing board for me but since I have an idea of the process, I'm fairly confident I can try again with more satisfactory results.
UPDATE: The skirts are done. I used this pattern. My skirts didn't have nearly the flare that the skirt on the illustration shows. A note for future use - working with the ribbon was not fun (and resulted in less than stellar edging). I'd recommend finishing off the edge of the fabric and tacking the ribbon behind it to get nearly the same result without the frustration. Again, I have no idea if these will actually fit, but I'm happy enough to box 'em up and send them to my friend.

Darn crafty friends! :) I love this repurposed tee dress: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/07/re-purposing-tshirt-into-a-dress-with-braided-collar.html
I don't sew but this looks worthy of a novice attempt. Good luck on your much-more-advanced skirt!
Lori - That dress is SO CUTE! I might have to see if I can make one of those for my little niece. The problem is having a dress she currently can fit into to measure but I'm sure a phone call to her mom will resolve that. Thanks for the link!
Nice skirts!!! I love making these. It's now my go-to for birthday presents for Erin's friends. Because somehow all the invites these days are saying "No Gifts" Really? No gifts for a 4 year old? Seems cruel. But somehow making something doesn't count in my mind.
And I LOVE that t-shirt dress. I will have to try it soon.
