Book thirteen: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Have you ever wondered what a human life is worth? That morning, my brother's was worth a pocket watch.
Between Shades of Gray is the harrowing and horrifying story of a Lithuanian family forcibly relocated to a Siberian labor camp by the Russians in the early 1940s. Sepetys' note at the end confirms that while fictionalized, her story details the abuse many Lithuanians actually suffered at the hands of their Russian jailers.

13 down plus 39 to go.
