Happy Inauguration Day!

Wow. I'm listening to NPR while feeding Monsieur Henry a breakfast of scrambled eggs with cheese, cereal, and applesauce, and I have just heard that outgoing Vice President Dick Cheney (in a wheelchair because he somehow hurt himself lifting boxes) and incoming Vice President Joe Biden are getting into the cars to head off to the inaugural ceremony. And now outgoing President George W. Bush and incoming President Barack Obama are doing the same. What a huge relief today brings.

best moment ever-- Barack and Michelle escort Bush to the helicopter, to make sure he gets the hell out.

I didn't remember that the old president got kicked to the curb quite so fast! Not that he probably would have wanted to stay for the fancy lunch and parade viewing, I guess.

And to finish Jen's thought, then they stood there, eyes locked on that Marine Heli until it actually zoomed away... as if some evil genie might appear and take back the glass slippers or something.

And, here's hoping that my dreams come reasonably true (turncoat 'publican, 'member?) -- shake things up hard in that calm, pragmatic way. I hope there's no rift because Big Joe decided he wanted VP not SecState. IIRC, I thought Hillary would be perfect for foreign relations because she's smart and hard-nosed -- and it looks like the Prez saw that also.

If it's a dream, don't wake me.
