I spy your school age child

I find this so disturbing I cannot come up with any comment other than you've got to be kidding me.

"Unbeknownst to [high school student and their parents], and without their authorization, [high school officials] have been spying on activities of [the students] by Defendants' indiscrimina[te] use of and ability to remotely activate the webcams incorporated into each laptop issued to students by the School District..."

That is so very, very messed up. Any student or parent would be well within their rights (in my non-knowledge-about-the-law opinion) to sue for emotional distress. I would be very freaked out knowing that people might have been spying on me like that. Seriously. That is WAY worse than going through a locker without permission.

I know! Imagine you're a 16-year old doing God only knows what and you happen to leave you laptop open at the same time they decide to film you. I expect big lawsuits will be filed and even larger settlements to be the end result. And rightly so. You can sort of almost get around it if they had at least informed the parents but to not say anything and just randomly tape people. Bad. Bad. Bad. And so stupid it's hard to believe someone thought this was a good idea.
