American Girl

I received a catalogue filled with American Girl merchandise yesterday and I'm still reeling from the sticker shock. I have come to the conclusion that I will always feel in the very deepest part of my being a little sad over not having a girl. Always. It doesn't go away just because I have the most awesome son ever. It's an old injury ache that flares up when the weather takes a turn for the worse or when I see girls running around with their pigtails flying or a Mini Boden catalogue arrives with 26 pages of the cutest girl clothes ever created (compared to the five pages of boy clothing available). But we can't have a girl unless Darr gets a huge raise and I get three jobs because I would want that ridiculously priced ($295 - mon dieu!) camper set for the ($95) doll with the ($62) ski outfit and gear set. And of course you'd have to get the ($20) Pepper the husky pet set along with the ($26) dog sled and ($118) Elizabeth's bed and bedding and the ($42) school desk set and ...
