Movie Premiere: YouthTubers

It was one covid-summer in the making and nearly two years (just over?) in the post-editing but we finally got (most of) the cast together for the final Faux Film Camp screening of YouthTubers.  It was sort of anti-climactic after waiting all this time but still...we premiered the final Faux Film Camp movie and the boys had a fun and embarrassing time seeing themselves be so earnest in their endeavors.  I got a lot of feedback and may make some changes before I share this movie with those unable to attend the premiere.  I guess we can call the new version the previously unreleased Director's cut or something.  Anyway, I hope all of the kids remember their time spent making movies with me yelling at them to "stop laughing" and "get the shoot done so we can get to the pool" as fun and worthwhile.  I sure enjoyed having them around.  Lil' farts.

#Gentleminions

I had no idea when Henry asked if he could wear his fancy suit jacket and bow tie to the theatre to see Minions: The Rise of Gru that he was actively participating in a TikTok trend.

Brother Nick and Friday the 13th

Nick went to Hollywood Theatre with his horror-movie-watching friend, Sean, for a Friday the 13th Double Feature that included the original flick and Part 2, a Q&A session with two of the actresses, Amy Steel and Adrienne King, and a Meet-and-Greet photo opportunity at the end. He said it was "a blast" and gave me permission to share it on the blog. Check it out...

Soccer: Spartans vs Westside Timbers

Liam, Max, Sacha, Cole, Connor, and Henry

We invited the team over for a 'Movie After the Match'. Henry chose Tommy Boy. Treats included Starburst, KitKat candy bars, gummy bears, and Izze drinks along with four batches of popcorn (unbuttered because boys and greasy hands don't go well with furniture easily stained). 11 kids made it to the movie and when it was over, I had them all run up to the middle of the bridge near our house to take a team selfie. There was much running around the building and tabletop tennis and general merriment. They are a good albeit occasionally rambunctious group of tweens.
Concessions stand is OPEN!

Movie night: Home Alone

Turns out if you give a bunch of old preschool friends unfettered access to licorice they will eat all of it. Who would've thunk it?

Hen loves Home Alone and wanted to share it with his friends so we had our first official movie night. Perhaps most fun (for me) was repurposing the Ikea Skylta Children's Market Stand. (Previously it served as the Honeydukes candy shop for Hen's H.P. party and as our first official lemonade stand. Best $14.99 I ever spent.) I love Hen's "Boom! Movie Snacks" sign. Where the "boom" comes from I do not know but I like it!

We kicked off the festivities with dinner, followed by some time for play and general silliness, and then before starting the flick, I played the home movie the boys made this summer while camping at Lakeside. Awesome!

The 99 W is getting a digital projector!

Honda is sponsoring Project Drive-In to help save the remaining 300+ drive-ins still operating throughout the country. Recently a local drive-in - 99 W in Newberg (my hometown!) - won a digital projector that will keep it showing movies for hopefully decades to come. Last night, the 99W held a special Thursday night showing of one movie before it hit theatres - Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Since Hen had Thursday and Friday off from school for Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah, it was an opportune time to introduce the young lad to the drive-in movie experience.

We arrived early to nab a good spot and were welcomed with free admittance and a car blanket from Honda. Honda rocks! We read some books, hit the concession stand, and took some ghost shots of Hen to pass the time until dusk. The 99 W still runs awesome vintage ads before the movie starts and at one point we were all singing the National Anthem. (Note to Timbers fans - this song is forever changed after a game and I had to restrain myself from yelling "Timbers!" at the end.) Then the show started and it was all fantastic!

Of course there were pictures...
