Knitting: Candle Flame scarf

This scarf ends up having cool patterns on both sides. It was pretty easy to knit up although it does require your attention in order to keep the pattern on track. It's the second (or third?) Pay It Forward gift for someone I've completed. I might not be doing a lot of reading, but I am knocking out these knitting projects. Which is good, I guess, because I've convinced myself to make Hen a Harry Potter item from Charmed Knits. The small size I plan on making requires 7 skeins of worsted weight yarn. For you non-knitting folk, that is a lot. Don't believe me? Check this out...

I'm going to take all 1300 yards and create a wizard robe. That is, if all goes according to plan.

Pay It Forward 2013 - Second delivery

Today, I'm shipping a baby blanket for my sister's baby, Isabella, to Montana. This blanket is a little weird since it is knit on the bias and ends up as a diamond rather than a square. But it was a breeze to knit up. I'm curious to know if you use another skein (or two) of the middle color, if you would end up with more of a square. As it is, I'm happy with the result and I love the way the three colors look together. Plus, the wool-acrylic blend ensures my sister will not accidentally shrink it when washing.
You can find the pattern here. I couldn't find Cotton-Ease so I used Wool-Ease instead. This lent a slightly fuzzy quality to the blanket.

Pay It Forward 2013 - First delivery

Made for Megan, modeled by Hen. The Mira Cowl pattern from Mira Cole. Per the advice from other ladies who knit, I chose not to block it. (I assume this could be done at a later date if I wanted, right?) I used The Fibre Comapny Canopy Fingering yarn in Palm Bud. It has an ever-so-subtle blue gray color and is super soft.

Pay It Forward 2012, the last delivery

For my last Pay It Forward item I made a scrapbook. I bought the album but tore off the ugly cover and replaced it with paper I thought was prettier. I contacted the recipient's husband to work out a plan to get photos to put inside it, although I was also able to use a few of my own photos of her kids.
The album covers the highlights of 2011, including birthdays, Independence Day, Easter, Christmas, back to school, Halloween, along with a few other not-so-specific moments (e.g., a day at the park, travels, etc.), and two pages devoted to each kid. I am very pleased with the turnout. It's cute without being over-the-top (I think). My favorite is a toss-up between Elise's birthday page and the two-page layout of Nolan.

Pay It Forward 2012, first shipment ready to go

Three yarn projects are heading out the door! The fourth project is nearly complete and I hope to ship out by the end of summer. The fifth, well, I have no idea what I'm doing for that person yet.
