Note: This schnazzy ensemble was put together and worn to Henry's first in-person bar mitzvah party for his good friend, Eliav. Just in time, too, as the too-big-when-I-bought-it jacket is now almost too small for him to get into.

School clothes
When dropping off my nephew the other day, Gavin spent a few minutes showing me all of the cool things he recently bought with his mom for the coming school year. Hen already has a drawer of clothes a size or two larger than what he's currently wearing so he does have a couple outfits to start school with but it just happens that we were at the mall the other day and Nordstrom was having their anniversary sale and Hen found a few pieces that he wanted to get. So, here's a preview of what Hen will look like as a kindergartener.

Boy outfit #19 Picture Day
Hen's school picture almost didn't happen, twice. First, he balked at having his individual picture taken. He was finally lured into sitting for it after I told him I'd read him a book once he was done. Second, when the entire class went outside and Hen proceeded to fight his teacher as they lined up for the shot. When she turned to me and said she thought Hen might not be able to be in the picture, that was fine by me. I don't let him hit me and I don't expect her to put up with that, either. So, I calmly said to Hen I was sorry he had made that choice because I was going to have to take away the LEGOs. After I asked him if he'd like to change his decision, he quickly got in line, and I swear his voice was one of the loudest when it came time to yell "cheese!" I hope he learns sometime soon that if he just does what he's asked it'll take two seconds versus the five to ten to fifteen minutes it can take if he tries to get his way. I mean, really, it's not like this kid has never seen the front of a camera before. Oy vey.
Also, I was a bit overwhelmed by what to put the kid in for his first official (pre)school photo. At least I was until Rachele wrote "what says 'Hen' to you" as a response to my Facebook status update concerning his picture attire. So, we went shopping, and wouldn't you know it there was an octopus shirt at Hanna Andersson and it totally said "Henry" to me.
Shopping guide info:
1. pants - Catimini, purchased on ebay.com
2. shirt - Hanna Andersoon, purchased at Hanna Andersson
3. superhero mask (not worn for official picture) - purchased at Thinker Toys

Boy outfit #18
Can we just talk for a moment about the ultra cute Harajuku Mini line for Target? I plopped down $13 the other day and picked this t-shirt up for Hen because it is AWESOME. It goes without saying that there are far more choices for girls than boys but the boy set included a long-sleeved octopus shirt, which I will probably have to grab because octopus, people. Oh, and underneath it all, Hen is wearing his Vintage Snoopy pajamas.

Boy outfit #16: Special Preschool Edition
So excited! Hen had his first day at preschool this morning! Shortly after waking up, he enjoyed a nice warm bubble bath, followed by a breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and milk, and then he had to endure his mama's last minute outfit indecision - it came down to either the sweater Betty (Darr's ex-co-worker) made or one of the faux ties I just made, the sweater won out. Then we got dressed and headed to school. The day could not have gone smoother for us. Parent helping is awesome. I couldn't be happier with our preschool choice. The teacher is great, the classroom is perfect, it's all amazing!

Hen hasn't seen Star Wars* yet but he knows R2D2 is on the front of his shirt. Further proof we aren't shirking our parental duties over here at the condo.

*Because of a recent shirt purchase from TeeFury, we now all have Star Wars-related tees. So, yeah, a family photo shoot is in order.

Boy outfit #13
And now I bring ye the Catimini pants. I bought these after we learned the Resident Alien was a boy but before he arrived. And they were size three. That's how crazy I am with the shopping. They are brown plaid with hints of orange, blue, and green. And, this is the best part, they have this huge patch of brown corduroy on the back of one of the legs.*

Boy outfit #12
For Hen's frame Mini Boden runs a bit short in the pants and a bit large in the shirts, but if you throw 'em on the kid with a pair of cool knit-by-grandma superhero* socks, you have a boy outfit worthy of blogging.

And here's what the photo looked like before editing:
The original was too yellow for my liking and I remember hearing and/or reading that if something in the photo doesn't add to the awesomeness of the photo, it shouldn't be there so I cropped to my heart's content, removed the bit of superfluous toddler bike helmet, and rebuilt the base trim. Yes, I could have removed the cat door as well but we do have cats and usually they are very much a part of our photos so if they weren't actually making an appearance in this one, at least evidence of their existence is included.
*Hen tried these socks after receiving them last Christmas and nearly killed himself because of their slippery nature. However, he recently saw me sporting a pair and expressed an interest. So I invoked their superheroness to convince him to give them another try. And it worked.

Boy outfit #11
Hen's growing and summer is almost over so we're breaking out the fall clothing. Bean is into skateboards right now so I, in an incredibly clever mothering moment <insert pat on back here>, spent about fifteen minutes one evening convincing Henry to try on his new "skateboarding" pants. And it worked. Hee hee. I'm excited to learn I still have some manipulative tools in my parenting kit. I have to pick up another pair of shoes (or two) and a second coat (I'm leaning towards this one or maybe this one or perhaps this one or this one - okay so boy clothing options don't totally suck all the time) but for now, he's got enough clothes to carry him for a while. Did I mention the retro Smurf shirt? Anyway, the whole point of this entry is to highlight a current favorite. I caught a pic of Hen being a slug in his new clothes the day of our ill-fated blackberry picking attempt.
For you photography folks thinking, "Dang, Christie, that picture be DARK," here's a look at the original picture:
This, my friends, illustrates the power of shooting in RAW.
Also, I like corn but I am even more compelled to buy it when the marketing is good. Bodacious sweet corn rocks regular sweet corn every day of the week and on Sunday. And those threatening clouds, they busted open the heavens shortly after this shot was taken.

Boy outfit #10
Bean's transitioning into his next size of clothing (24 month/2T) so I'm sure there will be a rash of these posts as I dress my boy each morning and realize that I adore each outfit. I particularly enjoy the juxtaposition of the army pants with the anti-war message on the shirt Hen's wearing today. I noticed he was standing still for a millisecond so I quickly threw the camera into automatic, switched on the flash, and snapped a few photos. I think these may be my first shots taken using the automatic setting since the photography class at the beginning of November.

Boy outfit #9
I was shooting Henry at the park today and realized that this is one of my current favorite outfits. There was just enough light to capture Henry swinging, going down the slide, and taking part in some very serious mushroom hunting. (Huck loves labeling the mushrooms - papa mushroom, mama mushroom, and baby mushroom.)

The double post: Boy outfit #8 and well baby

Weight: 22 lbs / 5%
Height: 34.75 in / 65%
Head Circumference: 48 cm / 40%
Dang if the kid didn't fool us into believing he'd actually gained a lot of weight over the past few months. He certainly feels heavier. Ah well, he's still growing enough to fit (sort of) into bigger clothes. The sleeves are a little long but it's got a big old bus on the front so what's not to like, eh?
Shopping guide info:
1. shirt - Mini Boden, purchased at www.bodenusa.com
2. pants - Guess, purchased at Nordstrom
3. shoes - See Kai Run, purchased at Haggis McBaggis
