A Meeting the Cousins Story

I met my cousins last week! They grew up a little bit in Oregon and then moved to Montana a little bit and, now, they live in Spokane! My mama says that's up north, and that there is a waitress at an iHop there with crazy eyelashes. And then my mama made us stand for the olitory family shot when the waves disdappeared.
Those kids were crazy and tried to get me to go into the ocean. Can you believe that? I hanged back because I didn't want to go into the ocean. It was really super cold.
I saw a sea snail! He moved really super slow. We saw mussels and limpets and barnacles and sea anemones. That's a lot of, lot of sea creatures.
My mama and me we slept in a tent. It was really super big. Like this much [Ed. <insert Hen's arms opened wide here> ]. When I woke up I saw Phineas and Ferb on Lola the iPad with Jackson. He's eating my apple and I didn't wear socks to bed. My mama asked me if I wanted to keep my socks on and I said nope and taked them off.
We got to spend another whole day at the beach. It was really super fun. I want to move to the beach and see the sea snails every day because I like the sea snails.

A Sledding Story

We went sledding! At the mountain! There was snow! Alexandra was with me!

Alexandra gave me a hug. In the snow. Because we were at the mountain. And there was snow there.

We got to run in the snow. I like to run. Running in the snow is pretty cool. The snow goed "crunch crunch".

My mama asked me to smile but I typically refrain from such visual displays of happiness. Unless I am playing with my garbage and recycling trucks. The recycling truck picks up the recycling. Like plastic. And cardboard. And papers. And plastic. And then, we're recycling!

Snow angels are not my thing.

Alexandra shared her foods with me. I eat the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

On the way home, mama told me to smell our stinky feets so we did. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

An Aviation Museum Story

Today my mama took me to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. It was really cool. There was one bit of wall that had bunches of toggles and switches and levers. I got to touch whatever I wanted on that wall so I did.

I wanted to play with all of the little planes. I couldn't though. But it's awesome because there is a toy store in the museum and I got to buy a little plane just for me.

Mom said the seating meant taking a picture was obligatory. I don't know what that is but I do know how to sit and say, "cheese." See my little plane is in the big picture, too.

The mostest best part of the museum is the plane ride. I got to drive my very own plane. All by myself. I did this a lot because the old guy let me ride more than one time. And I said, "Thanks, dude."

A Busy Monday Story

My Monday started with a donut. I really, really like donuts that have freckles on 'em.
Then we drove out to the magical park in Sherwood. It has cars and trucks and backhoes and diggers and backhoes and trucks. There is a playground and when I play on it my hair does funny stuff.
We had to leave because we were invited to see How to Train Your Dragon at the Kennedy School with our friends. Josie did not like the fire breathing dragons at all but I thought they were very cool. They go ROAR! and then have the fire come.
Then we were home. I got to eat pancakes without blueberries for dinner and we built a fort in the living room. We put in it soccer balls, a toaster, a fire truck, one pillow, some fruit (it's wood!), and toys. It was a busy day but that doesn't mean I'm going to sleep, ya'll.

A Painting Story

Sometimes I love to paint. I love to select colors and put my brush in the paint because it is fun.
My mama says that painting in your underwear is totally acceptable given today's social norms. When you get too much paint on your brush, you have to dip the brush in water to wash it off. Sometimes dipping your brush in water is more fun than painting.
I felt like painting leaves because they are green and I like green and sometimes it is fun to paint with green.
And sometimes your mama wants to interrupt your painting to take pictures so you have to pose. You do it because you love your mama even though she's crazy with the picture taking.

An Island Story

Hi. It's me, Henry. I'm in the Mexico!. Early this morning we left our casa to go to this misty island. We traveled on a boat. I very much really like boats that take me to misty islands.

Along the way we saw genuine sea lions. They look the same as zoo sea lions but they are in the wild and they are very loud and barky.

We got to the beach with white sand and nobody else was there, so we ran all over the place and were loud 'cuz nobody was around to be quiet for. This is the best kind of beach to visit.

Our lunch included chocolate chip cookies. I don't know if you know this or not but toddlers definitely do love chocolate chip cookies. We'd like to eat 'em before lunch but we'll take 'em after if that's the only time we can get 'em.

White sand beaches leave me feeling tired. So tired, in fact, my mama said I fell asleep about two minutes into our return trip even though the Sea of Cortez had super choppy waves and the boat engine was loud.

A Washing the Car Story

Yesterday, I helped my mama wash the car because she said it was perfect car washing weather. Our car was super dirty so it very much needed a bath.
I got my own bucket o' suds and my very own rag for washing. You need a rag when your car is super dirty.
I'm tall so reaching the high spots was easy peasy 'cuz our car is a mini car. And turns out the car is green. It was hard to tell under all that dirty dirt.
The tires were really very extremely dirty so I took special care with them. Even tires need loves, people.

An iPad Story

I got to play with my mama's iPad today. It has apps just for me. I love apps.
But I wish my mom wasn't always bothering me to look up. When I look up, I can't play me apps. Shortly after saying cheese, I lost my grip on lil' Lola and she fell, nicking the coffee table on the way down. My mama didn't even get mad. She said the flaw gives Lola character.

A Dinner Story

Tonight we went to Avery's mama's house and papa's house for dinner. I got to play with Avery and to play with Avery's cars. I like cars.Avery has super cool purple panda pajamas.
But the girl likes to be nekkid. I like toys.
After dinner we headed up to Avery's room and played fort with this thing called a Pack N Play. I like forts.
Then it was tutu time. SeƱorita Avery looks pretty with a flower in her hair.
I couldn't play with her flower barrette but I was able to play with this other flower that spinned when you blow on it and also if you moved with it. I like flowers.

A Scrambled Egg Story

Yesterday I got to help my mama in the kitchen. I was very happy and excited. Helping meant I had to be taller so I pushed the stool over to the stove. My mama said the stove can be very hot and so I had to be careful not to get too close. This is hard when you're a small toddler. First, we poured the egg mixture into a pan that was warm.
Then it was time to add little cubes of cheddar cheese. They went SPLAT! when I put them into the pan.
Stirring was probably my most favorite of all because I got to use a tool. This tool is called a spatula and it is red like a fire truck. I like fire trucks, ergo I like spatulas.
When the eggs were all scrambled and the cheese melted we got to dish up some grub. It was very good. I ate all of mine and took a bite of the eggs my mama shared with me.

Month Twenty-five

Dear Henry,

One month down, eleven to go. While you are a very nice kid, Bean, and I do mean awesomely and completely great, I am looking forward to being as far away from the aptly named terrible twos as is humanly possible. We expected you to be a bit more challenging, and you do not disappoint, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't sometimes miss the days when you were a bit more pliable and easier to handle. You can twist and shout better than The [frickin'] Beatles. That being said, we traveled this past month and you did splendidly. There was one misstep, one that only I can be blamed for, but you were the perfect travel companion. The airport's rule about arriving two hours before a flight meant that we had to find creative ways to entertain you. As luck would have it our gate was right next to a moving walkway so we spent a great deal of time playing on that. You really wanted to get on all by yourself but when your leg was pulled forward by the walkway and the rest of your body was still on the unmoving part, it freaked you out and had you grabbing wildly for my hand. It took you a few times to figure out you could stand just fine and then walk, and once you did you were off. And then you wanted to bring Piggy along, too. So we unpacked Piggy and you took him on a walk through the airport. Our newest outside game is the Stop-Go game, a self-explanatory game in which your pops and I yell "Go!" and we all go. Then we yell "Stop!" and we all stop. It usually takes you a few extra steps before you stop but you do stop. It's a good game. When we're walking along, you'll say "I walking." And when you're running, you'll say "I running." This is usually followed up by "Mama running." You don't accept faux running, either. Believe me, I've tried to fool you. I have to actually jog or you get upset. I jog because upsetting you by not jogging is the last thing I want to do, especially during a month of increased irritability and whining on your part. Whining sucks, Bean. If I can curb any of that with a little jogging, I'll happily lace up the sneakers and snap on the jog bra.On the playground front, you finally overcame your fear of the green and yellow slides on the big kids play structure at the park. We go there now and you head right for 'em and then go down over and over and over again. You emit the inevitable "weee!" as you slide. Verbal expressions of fun from a toddler are awesome. You can find fun in the most mundane, ordinary, uninteresting things. I guess that is part of what is so cool about having your very own toddler. You give me rocks and leaves and point out the bees and bugs. You like to take sticks you find and use them to draw in the dirt. A few days ago we were at Costco and on our way in we saw a caterpillar, one of those brown and black caterpillars that are sort of fuzzy. We spent ten minutes or so tracking the little guy's progress as he wove in and out of the shopping carts lined up outside the building. We pet him gently and then went on our way.Disney was a hit. You got to ride on a plane, a bus, and a train all in one day. That was more than enough to satisfy you, lover of all modes of transportation, but we also got to see Mittey Mouse - that's how you referred to him. And we were outside walking and running so long you fell asleep in my arms as I carried you back to the hotel. You grew really quiet, your eyelids started to droop, and then you rested your head on my shoulder and slept. I'd say your favorite part of the trip was getting to see Mater and Lightning McQueen, followed closely by a short jaunt on the monorail. You love Mater. You seemed to really enjoy eating cupcakes for lunch, too. We might have to make this a new lunch option at the condo. You remain inquisitive, quiet (for the most part), sweet, playful, and adorable. You have to have your dinosaur, dragon, Piggy, and baby with you when you go to sleep at night. You tell us when your diaper is poopy, but sometimes this is just a ploy to get out of bed once you've been tucked in. You're a trickster. You semi-sing the alphabet song, only joining in on certain letters. You are particularly fond of the letter P. You are brave, kind, and gentle. And we love you. So much it seems insignificant to merely type the words. It's just not enough to encompass the depth of feeling. You continue to amaze us and inspire us and we can't wait to see what the next month brings.

Love,
Mom

A Dock Story

Today I got to go to the dock with my mom and Bea. Docks are fun. They sit on water. Our dock is made of wood mostly, except for this one part that attaches one part of the dock to the other. This part is made of metal and is the most fun part. I got to slide down it head first.
Shutter 1/1000 Aperture f/2.5 ISO 200*
And then I got to crawl up it.

And then I slid down it backwards.

And I got to lie on it.

And roll on it.

Rolling is the most fun part of playing on the most fun part of the dock.

So, in conclusion, I like docks because docks are fun.
